India’s first LGBTQ clinic and HIV treatment centre inaugurated in Mumbai

Based out of the Humsafar Trust’s office jn Mumbai, the centre will give free counselling and provide Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) to the LGBTQ community. TAshok Row Kavi, founder chairperson of the Trust, said: “Until now we would get testing done for the community members at our centre. If tested positive for the disease, they would be asked to go to Sion Hospital, but there was a huge dropout (rate) there. Because of how the community is perceived outside, a lot of these people wouldn’t seek treatment."

Invisible: stories stories of gay and bisexual men and transgender people in Vietnam

After walking a flight of stairs to the second floor of a rented hall in mid-December 2018, I strolled around the large room appreciating a photo-voice exhibition of photographs, each accompanied by a unique story. The photos were set on easels, spread around the room, poster size, with short statements reflecting on the emotions and experiences that each gay and bisexual men and transgender person wanted to convey. The photos told the stories of gay and bisexual men and transgender people’s experiences around barriers and entry points to sexual health services in Hanoi, Son La and other provinces of Vietnam.

HIV Prevalence Among Transgender Women Lower Than Previously Estimated, but Rates May Not Be Going Down, New CDC Study Finds

A new systematic review conducted by researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 14% of trans women and 3% of trans men are living with HIV. The estimate in trans women is lower than previous calculations, but the new estimates still show that transgender people are a vulnerable population with a substantial risk of contracting HIV.

During second year in office, Trump Administration continued discriminatory policies and practices against LGBT people and people living with HIV

Today, The Fenway Institute of Fenway Health released a policy brief demonstrating that in his second year in office, President Donald Trump continued to promote discrimination against LGBT people and people living with HIV. In some cases, these policies built upon anti-LGBT measures begun in 2017. In other cases, the Trump Administration found new ways to negatively impact U.S. citizens and federal contractors as well as the family members of LGBT foreign diplomats. His administration also engaged in practices that will increase anti-LGBT stigma and HIV stigma around the world.
